Strain-Induced Surface Roughening of Thin Sheets and Its Effects on Metal Forming and Component Properties

Straining of sheet metal leads to surface roughness changes. In this study, foils AISI 201 and 304 stainless steel were strained in uniaxial tension impose roughening their surfaces. Thereafter, the corrosion resistance, electrical resistivity, magnetic field density, lubricated friction resulting surfaces evaluated. The effect strain-rate on roughening, thereby against tools, occurrence deformation-induced martensite was investigated. material showed higher than at low strain-rate. Lubricated is clearly affected by changes that occur. When simulating a micro-forming process, strain-induced should be included where possible maintain high fidelity simulation. Strain-rate, range tested work, had only minor properties; however, fraction reduced for elongated strain-rates.
